This tutorial explains very simple techniques for drawing in cartoon style. I never liked cartoon "How to Draw..." books, mostly because of the excessive instructions. This tutorial explains the absolute minimum of cartoon/comic style, without explaining any other techniques of drawing. You can come up with your own style by choosing which lines to make color and which lines to make black, how many levels of shading there are and where, and how to draw the eyes and other features. This example was done in Adobe Flash CS4 Professional, but could apply to other software with freehand drawing, or to traditional media. This tutorial does not cover stick and ellipse drawing, which is normally needed on a layer underneath to keep proportions the same between frames, helps plan where to place parts of the body when the character is posed, and makes consistency much easier in situations when the character is posed in a way that affects perspective.
